Sydney Portrait Photographers
We are two professional Sydney portrait photographers specializing in outdoor portraits for individuals or families.
|
We are Jan & Rochelle and you can always expect us both at your portrait session. We prefer photographing outdoors using natural light on the day. We are capable and able to do your photography session inside however if you are looking for studio portraits, we are not the right photographer for you.
Our outdoor photography sessions may be a great opportunity for updating your dating profile, family portraits, anniversary portraits, surprise proposals, engagement photography, maternity shoot or celebrating a milestone birthday.
I recently used Salava Photography to organise family portraits in time for a Christmas present for my parents. What a wonderful, positive experience it was to meet Rochelle and Jan. Rochelle was so efficient with providing a quote and flexible with making arrangements when I was feeling overwhelmed with getting so many family members to agree on a date and time! She was so lovely, friendly and passionate to correspond with prior to the day and I knew even before I received the photos that I had made the right choice. Jan and Rochelle were fantastic during the shoot and we all knew we were in very capable hands. Faster than expected turnaround of photos and amazed at how many shots we have to choose from. Cannot recommend more highly. - Cara Chapman
Location for a portrait photography session
The location for your portrait session is totally your choice. If you need help choosing the best spots around Sydney for your session, we can suggest locations we are familiar with but don't worry we are confident in any outdoor location.
Best lighting for outdoor photography
Best time for your portrait session is determined by light. Golden hour is a term you may be familiar with - it is about one hour after the sunrise for luminance or about one hour before the sunset for golden light this when the lighting for your portrait photography should be most flattering.
This is not something you have to stick to when planning your portrait session. Light is behaving differently for example on an overcast day, the light is diffused through the clouds and casts even light. Soft rain can be very romantic and not the end of the world.
We are able to photograph at any time during the day, however, we do not photograph portrait sessions between 10 am and 2 pm when the direct sunlight in places like Sydney is harsh and unflattering for your portraits.
Portrait session schedule
Most people book a portrait session with us for 1 to 2 hours. Good photography takes time therefore timing is an important aspect to think about.
Factors to take into consideration when planning your session are:
- number of people involved in the session
- number of clothes changes
- the number of photography locations you wish to include in your session and travel and set-up time in between shoot locations
- needs of small children, elderly people, expecting mothers or other
- limited parking as some locations are quite busy on weekends
- wait time at popular public spots where there are other people or photographers
