The white wedding dress became popular after Queen Victoria wore a white lace dress at her wedding to Prince Albert in 1840. Victoria chose white because it was the perfect colour to highlight her white wedding gown.
White was not a symbol of purity those days, blue was. White symbolized wealth.
Until the later half of the 19th century, most people didn’t pose for formal wedding photos during the wedding. They might pose for a formal photo in their best clothes before or after a wedding. In the late 1860s, more couples started posing in their wedding clothes or sometimes hired a photographer to come to the wedding venue.
I didn't mention yet wedding dress colour differences based on culture. They can be red - coming from Eastern cultures, they can be black coming from Spanish origin...etc. We love them all, no matter what colour the dresses are.
